We had a ball staying at the Four Winds Casino in South Bend! I just like staying in casinos, and this one certainly has all the lights and excitement.
Although I’m not a big gambler, I can say that I enjoyed my time there. It has top-notch amenities, restaurants, and shopping for that nice little getaway.
Cha-ching! I’ll tell you about our experience, what to know and expect, and share personal photos.
Getting There

We drove from Michigan to get to the Four Winds in South Bend, Indiana. Just keep in mind that there are other locations, so make sure this is the one you want to go to.
It was about 30 miles away, and we ended up on US-31 S. You can’t miss the big sign off the highway when you reach the destination.
Pull into the big parking lot to find free parking. I’ll warn you that on the weekends, it might be very crowded.
Staying at Four Winds Casino South Bend

Like many other casinos, Four Winds is open 24/7. If you stay at the hotel, check-in is at 4 p.m., and check-out is at 11 a.m.
I highly advise making a reservation well in advance because all 416 rooms were booked out for days. Luckily, there was an opening in the following week.
Checking In

After parking the car, we walked to the check-in area. You can drive to the drop-off, but we just parked because we planned to hang out a while before taking off again.
The outside of the casino was as well-kept as the inside. Pretty pink and white flowers accented the green-painted lawn.
A man greeted us as we entered the lobby. The warm lighting flickered against the earth tones.

We checked in for our two-night stay, and at this point I wished I was staying a week. Oh yeah, my mom has a Players Card, so we got a room on a special deal.
If you get the card, they offer special rates during the week. Otherwise, expect to pay much more during the weekend.
Hotel Room

The journey to the room was a pleasant experience. I loved the pictures and artwork, and stopped to read all the labels.
When we finally stepped into the room, it also had a nice earthy feel. It was a Standard Room with silver and bronze accents.

The double queen beds were so comfy, with sleek, soft sheets. The blackout curtains really made it dark at night, and I had a great night’s sleep.
We loved the huge picture window and the view of the parking lot with trees standing in the distance.

There was a large TV, refrigerator, and coffee maker in this room. I’ll add that the room was very clean and everything appeared new.
The bathroom was wonderful, and I loved the shower. It felt so invigorating to stand under the falling water after a long day.

Other options include the Studio Suite, Junior Suite, Deluxe Suite, and Celebrity Suite. I’m only showing you pictures of the room we stayed in, as I didn’t have access to the other ones.
Amenities
In the hotel area, you’ll find a pool and Cedar Spa. Now, I didn’t use any of those amenities and wished I had more time to enjoy them.
Actually, the pool was closed during our stay. I’m not sure why, but I didn’t bring a swimsuit anyway.

But I did use the fitness center twice during my stay, and it was very clean. There were a lot of exercise machines and weights for a decent workout.
Besides, I had the whole place to myself because no one else came in. Having towels, sanitized towels, and filtered water was a nice touch.
Casino

Leaving the quiet hotel area, we walked over to the casino. Once you go through those glass doors, you’ll hear the excitement of all the blings, chings, and coins!
In this area, you can find all the slot machines, tables, and speciality rooms. They have free soda machines and coffee here too.
I’m not much of a gambler, but my mom is. The fun part for me is walking around and watching others play.
Some people were so into their games, shouting and jumping up and down. Others were patiently playing the machines, waiting for the big money to drop.

“Come on baby…Big money baby,” I heard one lady say as she rubbed the machine.
With my mom, I played a slot machine with a fire-breathing dragon on it. She won some, but I didn’t win anything.
My mom says there’s some skill and luck involved. Guess I have neither.
Well, I’ve been to all the Four Winds locations, and they’re very similar. But this location seemed to have a roomier casino floor with more open space.
Entertainment

Expect to find live music on the weekends at Kankakee Grill or Copper Rock Bar. But you’ll want to check the website, as you might need to buy a ticket.
We’ve been here on the weekend to find a lot of people dressed up for a concert. So you can get your dance on there too!
Ribbon Town is the conference and event center. People can also book venues such as meetings and weddings there.
Restaurants and Dining

The place we’ve eaten at the most is Timbers Fast Food & Deli. They have salads, soups, sandwiches, and burgers.
By the way, I always get the Chicken Caesar Salad, and it’s pretty good. Don’t forget to get fries on the side!
Timbers is basically first come, first served. And what I like about eating here is you can watch all the action as you’re right next to the casino floor.
If you’re looking for something not so fast-food, they have Copper Rock Steakhouse and Kankakee Grill.

The last time we tried to get a table, but there was a 1.5- to 2-hour wait. We went somewhere else, and I recommend making a reservation if you really want to eat there.
The Buffet is an all-you-can-eat option. We’ve eaten there too, and they have a lot of options as far as food.
You can expect long lines in the evening, so we try to get there before 5 p.m. to beat the big dinner rush.
White Burch Market is a coffee shop where you can also find sandwiches, desserts, pastries, and tea. Here we found some gourmet finds and tasty snacks to hold us over.
Edgewater Cafe is upstairs and serves breakfast and brunch. They have seating around the pool on the roof, but we haven’t eaten there yet.
Shopping

Four Winds Outfitters is a place where you can buy clothes, souvenirs, stuffed animals, handbags, and other goods. They also have handmade native american jewelry that I love to look at.
We always find something fun to buy here. Maybe you’ll find something to fill your cup?
Notes

Like I mentioned before, you’ll want to make a reservation before staying at Four Winds. We were pretty surprised they booked up so quickly.
When we were staying there, it was mostly quiet. But we heard hammering early in the morning.
When I talked to the front desk, they said there was construction going on on the 3rd floor. Otherwise, they apologized and said it doesn’t happen often.
Overall
Staying at the Four Winds Casino in South Bend was a great experience. When I come back to this area, I’d like to stay at the hotel again.
It’s not Las Vegas, but if you just want a couple of days to get away, it works for me!
